Questions? hello@knowyourbaseline.ca

Please read these terms before using the Alberta Energy Broker Quote Decoder. By using the tool, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. Acceptance of terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of knowyourbaseline.ca and the Alberta Energy Broker Quote Decoder (the "Tool"), operated by Baseline Energy. By accessing or using the site or the Tool, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version and effective date are always shown at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised Terms.

2. Description of service

Baseline Energy is a registered trademark and a service of Energy Associates International, the operating name of Energy Associates Inc., incorporated in Alberta, Canada.

The Tool is a free comparison utility for Alberta commercial energy customers. You enter the details of an energy price quote — or optionally upload a utility invoice — and the Tool compares it against proprietary daily wholesale market data. The result is a verdict band: Fair Price, Overpriced, or Way Overpriced, reflecting whether the total price in your quote contains excess margin relative to that day's market.

The verdict reflects the combined effect of broker and supplier margin embedded in your quote. The Tool does not name or identify any specific broker or supplier. It comments on your quote, not on any named party.

The Tool is a lead generator for Baseline Energy's consulting service. You can book a free consultation after seeing your results.

Baseline Energy is an independent energy procurement consulting service. We do not act as an energy broker, do not sign energy contracts on your behalf (you sign directly with your supplier), and earn no commissions, referral fees, or rebates from suppliers or brokers. We are paid by our clients through a transparent, on-bill, unit-consumption-based fee ($/MWh).

3. Acceptable use

The Tool is provided for you to analyze your own business's energy quotes. You agree not to:

Misuse may result in your access being blocked and, where appropriate, legal action.

4. Intellectual property

The Tool, its design, the underlying forward-curve market data, and the analysis methodology are the intellectual property of Energy Associates Inc. The Baseline Energy name and logo are registered trademarks.

These Terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Tool for its intended purpose — analyzing your own energy quotes. No other rights are granted. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from any part of the Tool or its underlying data.

5. Information you submit

By submitting quote details or uploading invoices, you confirm that:

You grant Baseline Energy a limited licence to process the data you submit for the purpose of providing the analysis and any follow-up consultation you request. You keep ownership of your data. We handle it as described in our Privacy Notice.

The Tool does not require account creation. We verify your email address each session using a one-time code. If you opt in on the verification screen, a "remember me" cookie lets you skip this step for up to 30 days on the same device.

6. No warranty / disclaimer

The Tool produces a directional estimate, not a precise measurement. Read this section before acting on a result.

The analysis output is provided "as is" for informational purposes only. The verdict band (Fair Price / Overpriced / Way Overpriced) reflects Baseline Energy's interpretation of market data at the time of the analysis. It is:

The Alberta energy market is volatile. Before using a verdict to negotiate a contract, challenge a broker's pricing, or make any procurement decision, you should book a consultation with Baseline Energy or your own qualified advisor to understand the full context.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Baseline Energy disclaims all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Baseline Energy is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Tool or reliance on the analysis output — including but not limited to losses from procurement decisions, contract negotiations, or business actions taken based on a verdict.

Our aggregate liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or use of the Tool is capped at the total amount you paid Baseline Energy in the 12 months preceding the claim. Because the Tool is free, this cap is typically zero.

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Baseline Energy, Energy Associates International, and Energy Associates Inc. — and their respective officers, employees, and agents — from any claim, loss, damage, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Tool or your breach of these Terms.

9. Privacy

How we collect, use, and protect your personal information is explained in our Privacy Notice. These Terms incorporate the Privacy Notice by reference. By using the Tool, you acknowledge that you have read and understood it.

10. Changes to the tool

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Tool — or any feature of it — at any time and without notice. We are not liable to you or any third party for any such change. If we introduce paid features in the future, we will communicate pricing clearly before any charge is made.

11. Termination

We may restrict or terminate your access to the Tool at any time if we believe you have violated these Terms or are misusing the service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimer, limitation of liability, and governing law — will continue to apply.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Alberta, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. You and Baseline Energy submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Alberta for any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Tool.

Before starting any legal proceeding, you agree to try to resolve the dispute in good faith by contacting us directly at hello@knowyourbaseline.ca. We will do the same. If the dispute is not resolved within 30 days of written notice, either party may proceed to the courts.

13. General provisions

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the rest of the Terms will remain in full effect.

Entire agreement

These Terms and our Privacy Notice constitute the entire agreement between you and Baseline Energy regarding your use of the Tool and supersede any prior agreements on the same subject.

No waiver

Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of our right to enforce it in the future.
